Import Requirements for Panama
To enter Panama successfully, your pet must meet the regulations set by the Ministry of Agricultural Development (MIDA) and the Ministry of Health (MINSA):
- Microchip: An ISO 11784/11785 compliant microchip is required.
- Rabies Vaccination: Must be valid and administered at least 30 days prior to travel.
- Core Vaccinations: Dogs require Distemper, Hepatitis, Leptospirosis, and Parvovirus. Cats require FVRCP.
- USDA Health Certificate: Must be issued by a USDA-accredited vet and endorsed (Apostille) by the USDA within 10 days of travel.
- Home Quarantine Request: A crucial document that must be submitted to MINSA before your pet arrives.
The Home Quarantine Process
If you arrive in Panama without pre-approved Home Quarantine paperwork, your pet will be held in a state quarantine facility at your expense for up to 40 days.
- Our team ensures the Cuarentena Domiciliaria form is submitted to the airport authorities ahead of your pet’s flight.
- Upon arrival at PTY, an airport veterinarian will inspect your pet and the pre-approved paperwork.
- A fee of approximately $130 USD (payable in cash) is collected by the health officials at the airport.
- Once cleared, your pet is released to you immediately.
